**** ATTENTION MONMOUTH CITIZENS ****
If you’re a parent, taxpayer, or member of the community, it is critical that you are well informed of significant changes in the education system that directly impact all cities and towns in Maine, including MONMOUTH …
By LAW, school systems with fewer than 2500 students are required to merge with other schools by JULY 1, 2009.
A plan is to be submitted to the Department of Education by March 28 which will consolidate the Monmouth, Richmond, Dresden, and Hall-Dale (SAD 16) systems, creating a Kennebec Intra-District Schools system (KIDS).
Also RIGHT NOW next year’s school budget is being prepared. Our school system is facing big challenges in the face of State budget cuts, Medicaid cuts, and recent audit findings that point to severe problems in our facilities, all in a period of time when the economy is in a downturn and taxpayers’ own budgets are tight.
** The consolidation plan and the budget are subject to voter approval **
